FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Welcome to Awana! It is a great program where your children can build relationships with other kids and their leaders as they grow together in their walk with the Lord. To get started, go to the registration link. When you enter each child's age or grade, the materials that will be needed will pop up. For Cubbies, there is one book to select. For Sparks and T&T, as beginning clubbers they will need Book 1. Puggles will have a coloring book included with the registration and parent cards are available. Once you have registered, please make plans to join our Awana Parent Meetings (see calendar), so we can answer all of your questions. You can also contact Wendi at wendi.bean@cc.today to answer any questions before you register.
Due to social distancing restrictions, Connect Church has made the decision to begin our Awana year on Zoom. In November, we will reevaluate and determine if we can meet in person or if we will continue on Zoom. We will keep parents informed and look forward to meeting in person when it is safe to do so. We will not meet in person until it is safe to do so, and we will ensure the social distancing and safety guidelines are in place prior to in-person meetings.
If your child is transitioning to a new portion of the club (for ex: Cubbies to Sparks, Sparks to T&T) then he will need a new handbook. If he is continuing in the same club level (for ex: staying in Sparks) he will finish his current handbook prior to moving on to the next handbook.
When you register your child (based on age or grade) the appropriate handbooks and uniforms will automatically drop down in the menu for you. There is only one book choice for Cubbies. Sparks will begin with Hang Glider (Book 1). T&T will begin with Grace in Action (Book 1). If you need assistance determining which handbook to purchase, select the one you think is needed and contact Wendi at wendi.bean@cc.today. She can verify and change your order if needed.
During whole group time, we will all be together. However, Puggles, Cubbies, Sparks and T&T are divided by age and grade based on the level of the handbooks. If you only have one device, please contact Wendi to discuss the best class for them.
The link for our Zoom will be on the cc.today website. The password will be provided to Awana families and leaders only in order to add an extra layer of protection for our club. We meet together as a large group for Opening Ceremony, Devotion Time, and Fun! Then, the clubbers will meet with their team for a time of encouragement and prayer. Children will say their verses to their leaders or have parents record them and send them in.
Theme nights are a super fun way to get involved in Awana! We may have a devotion and/or game that revolves around the theme. Yes, we even do theme nights on Zoom.
The Grand Prix is a family event where families build derby cars and meet together to race them on our track. We do not have a date set for this year’s race yet, but we will plan a date once it is safe to have group gatherings again. The wood blocks will be available for purchase once the date is determined.
The Awana Drive Thru will be held on Sept 9th, between 5:30-7:00 pm. We will have everything packed up for you. You will drive up and pick up your packet while staying in your car. It should not take more than a few minutes.
We like to stay in touch with parents and our clubbers via email, phone calls and mail. We send each child a birthday postcard, email parents weekly or biweekly regarding upcoming theme nights, and at times we may call you to be an encouragement to you and your child! Of course, you are always welcome to contact your Awana leaders too!
During our virtual phase, clubbers can submit a video or voice recording of themselves saying the verses required to complete a section. This can be submitted to the designated leaders at any time. We may have time on Zoom meetings to go over verses, but it would be best if they are submitted via text or email. Another option is to call and tell the verse to a leader at an agreeable time.
Although we love to see our clubbers on Zoom each week and love the opportunity to connect with them, we understand that it is not always possible. Sections can still be completed and submitted to the designated leader throughout the week. We are looking forward to the time we can all gather again safely in our building.
Yes! Once your child in registered in Awana, you can request to join the Connect Church Awana Facebook page. We do closely monitor this closed group and only allow parents to join if their child is an active member of Awana. Once a child is no longer in Awana, the parent is removed from the group. Only parents of active clubbers and our Awana leaders are permitted to join. As part of our screening process, you will be prompted to answer several Awana related questions to join. Please answer these questions, so we can easily confirm your request to join.
